My Story

My writing journey began in 1977, somewhere along a dusty road between California and Alaska. I was young, wild-hearted, and in love with the unknown. I traveled 4000 miles north with little more than a backpack, a notebook, and an unshakable curiosity about the world. Every encounter felt like an unfolding story, so I wrote as much of it down as I could.

Over the span of four decades, writing became a lifeline. Through marriage and motherhood, through the beautiful chaos of work and reinvention, I wrote to stay connected to something truer than circumstance. Each day, the ritual of writing became my breath of oxygen—an act of presence, a way home to myself.

In 2015 I stepped into a new chapter. I joined the American Writers & Artists Institute, trained under Nick Usborne, diving deep into the art of authentic communication, learning the craft of the warm sell: language that builds trust, provides value, and serves the reader.

We are living through a vast turning. The old ways are dissolving. The structures we’ve leaned on are shaking loose, asking us to reimagine what it means to be human in this shimmering, uncertain world. And yet, within the unraveling lies a quiet miracle. A chance to participate in the extraordinary—dissolving what doesn’t work, knowing that through life’s challenges lie the teacher—where we learn the new skills needed to fulfill on what we came here to do.

Through Enlighten Up Cafe, I write for a particular circle of souls—those who know that the appearance of the world around us is only a reflection of the life within. That each of us can alter outcomes through our own inner work, releasing the old patterns that are no longer working, and awakening to a new awareness of our potential, what we are capable of creating for ourselves and the world around us.

As my late friend Jan Boss used to remind me, “The age of the guru is dead.”  No one is coming to save us. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

Enlighten Up Cafe is designed to fill our cups with a knowingness of purpose: belief in our ability to resonate with that source that loves, heals and renews.
